ZOmbie bike ride

event production

The Zombie Bike Ride is a celebration of the bicycle — Key West style. Zombie costumes of all kinds and a one mile, leisurely ride along the Atlantic Ocean.

A large outdoor crowd attending a costume event, with many people dressed as skeletons, pirates, clowns, and other costumes, some wearing face paint. There is a stage in the background with a sign reading 'ZOMBIE' and musical equipment. The crowd is standing on grass, and the scene appears to be on a sunny day with trees around.
Two men standing close together outdoors, smiling at the camera with trees and decorative banners in the background. One man wears a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and a T-shirt with a skull graphic and text. The other man sports a headband, sunglasses, a beard, and a backpack.

Project details

Created in 2009 by Marky Pierson alongside Evan Haskell and Chris Needham of We Cycle, the Zombie Bike Ride began as a playful community event celebrating creativity, costumes, bicycles, and the eccentric spirit of Key West. What started as a small local ride quickly evolved into one of the island’s most iconic annual events, drawing thousands of participants for a sunset procession down the Atlantic coastline and transforming downtown into a large-scale celebration of art, music, performance, and community. The event became known for its elaborate costumes, high-energy atmosphere, and uniquely local character, blending Halloween spectacle with the island’s laid-back culture. As the ride grew, so did the surrounding festivities, including live music, immersive entertainment, street parties, and themed experiences that turned the event into a full-day celebration. With support from local businesses, artists, musicians, and volunteers, the Zombie Bike Ride became more than just a parade—it evolved into a collaborative community tradition that captured the playful, creative energy of Key West.
